Last winter while staying in Vero Beach, Florida, our dear friend, Sharon, treated us to dinner, along with our mutual friend, Roy, at Joey & Kimmy’s Seafood Market & Restaurant. Kimmy warmly greeted each of us, even bestowing a kiss hello to me, though we never personally met.

The service and attention to detail given to all four guests was impeccable due to Kimmy’s lead. The food was beautifully presented and scrumptious, and the wine suggested was extraordinary as agreed by all.

Ok, that was then! My husband and I brought our friends, Billa and Martin, there a couple of weeks ago and had a different experience.  I will note that Kimmy was not in the restaurant that evening. We were greeted with a smile by a waitress who shuffled us off to our table.  Our waitress didn’t ask for drinks order for at least 10 minutes after we were seated, unusual! Then once our drinks arrived our food order was discussed. The waitress didn’t know what soups were available and had to go to the freezer to check. Another question found her baffled as to what fish was available. She apparently wasn’t aware of what was and wasn’t available on the menu.

Once our orders were placed, soups did not appear until forty minutes later. Two soups, one pea and one New England Clam chowder were ordered by Martin and David, respectively. They were very pleased with the taste of their soups.

After the soup course, we all received a house salad – thankfully, all at the same time! It was cold, crisp and refreshing.

Our four entrees came two at a time with a 5-minute wait in between the second two.

My entrée of shrimp scampi was really delicious, as it was not too garlicky and had a tasty amount of butter.

My husband’s sausage and peppers were, and he said, "great"! I gave it a taste and had to agree.

Our friends ordered broiled halibut with side of spaghetti and Scottish Salmon in a brandy cream sauce with sundried tomatoes, mushrooms and artichokes.

Martin thought his fish was good, while Billa noted that her salmon dish had a mélange of flavors but was way too large of a portion.

One dessert was ordered, which was two generously stuffed cannoli. It was way too large of a portion for one, so the four of us shared it.  There was no doubt amongst us, it was delicious.

All in all, despite the timing issues and lack of experience in the wait staff, I would return as the food itself was delicious and the wine selection recommended to me was fantastic!

As I had the privilege of attending the second dinner, and while I agree with the critique, I want to add that the entire experience was delightful, and an overall memorable evening.
